Briquettes – A High Pressure Journey
Our Briquettes start their lives off as Prime Grade Oak planks and strips.
Part of our business is the manufacture of timber profile for the building, flooring and carpentry industry. When we buy the Oak in planks and strips, they’re always oversized so we can machine away any of the defects in the wood to leave us a clean and flawless section or its intended use.
The waste material the machines produce from this process heads up the extraction units and is deposited in the bins. The extractors only take up saw dust and chippings, so the material left in the bins is 100% Oak hardwood.
From this sawdust, our Briquettes are born! The waste saw dust is tipped in to a massive hopper with a ram at the bottom. The material drops in to a channel and is rammed under heavy pressure down a narrow tube. The constant pushing of material, mixed with a little heat, produces very tightly packed saw dust logs (Briquettes). Think making sausages, only less tasty!
Parallel Briquettes are 100% recycled oak with no additive making them safe, clean, environmentally friendly and efficient to burn. They’re also accredited with the Ready to Burn initiative for peace of mind when purchasing.

The Ready to Burn Initiative
Scheme Overview
Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) Ready to Burn certification scheme is run by HETAS and Woodsure, both non-profit organisations supporting cleaner and safer choices for the use of biomass and other solid fuels, appliances and associated technologies.
Woodsure has been championing the use of less polluting dry wood which is verified by its independent inspectors as having a moisture content of 20% or less, meaning it burns with less smoke than wetter wood.
Parallel Hardwood Briquettes are certified by the Ready to Burn scheme providing peace of mind as well as warmth!
